Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN)

Horizon Healthcare Staffing is seeking compassionate, skilled, and dependable Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses (RNs) for one of our respected hospital clients in Mercer County, NJ. The Med-Surg RN plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to individuals recovering from surgery, acute illness, or medical treatment. This unit serves as a bridge between the Emergency Department, Critical Care, and general inpatient care — making strong clinical judgment and teamwork essential.

Med-Surg RN Job Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct and individualized nursing care to patients admitted for medical and post-surgical treatment.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, obtain health histories, and monitor changes in condition.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely and accurately; document all care in the EHR.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams (including ED and Critical Care) to coordinate and implement patient care plans.
• Perform wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and post-operative monitoring.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, lab results, and overall clinical progress; promptly recognize and report significant findings.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment while following hospital infection-control and safety standards.
• Support emergency response and rapid-response protocols as needed within the Med-Surg unit.
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and uphold professional nursing standards of practice.

Job Requirements:

• Active NJ Registered Nurse (RN) License – Required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg, Step-Down, or Acute Care hospital experience – Required
• Experience with EMR (Cerner)

Certifications:

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred
