The Next Generation of Nursing

The rapid growth in information technology is having a radical impact on the education of nurses. Advances in processing capacity and speed, and the increased affordability of personal computers have contributed to information technology applications. Computer skills have become an essential tool for nurses. With computers we now have easier access to data and changing interfaces are redefining medical research. High tech preclinical stimulation laboratories are the new hands-on classroom.

• How does new technology affect the job forecast for nurses? Well, the future looks bright! According the the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2020 nurse jobs are predicted to increase by 28% from 2010.
• It is projected that there will be 1.2 million nursing job openings by 2020.
• To combat the nursing shortage, the US will need about 30,000 new nursing grads to fulfill the healthcare needs of our nation.

This is the next generation of nursing.
