Registered Nurse Who Revived Patient Wins RN of the Year

Daniel McCarthy, who is the assistant director of nursing at Daleview Care Center in Farmingdale, NY, was recognized as RN of the year by the New York State Health Facilities Association at its 67^th annual convention. The convention was held in conjunction with the New York State Center for Assisted Living. The event was held on June 28^th, 2016 at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, just 15 minutes from Lake George.

Daniel received the award in part because he had revived a patient three times in a two month period, once using the Heimlich maneuver and twice administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was honored by his facility on National Nurses Day in May 2015 at the request of the patient that he saved.

McCarthy, of West Babylon, has been a nurse since 2007, inspired to enter the field after seeing the difference made by health care professionals when his now late father spent time in hospice three years earlier.

Four other Long Islanders were also recognized at the banquet.

LPN Billy Parker was named assisted living nurse of the year; home health aide Althea Lambert was named noble caregiver in assisted living, and executive director Tammy Marshall was given the innovative practice award. All three Long Islanders work for Maple Point at Rockville Centre Assistant Living.

Dolores Dellova of the Nesconset Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation was named one of the volunteers of the year.
