Phlebotomists will be working in a variety of settings including physician offices, clinics, blood drives, surgery centers, and hospitals. The primary purpose of a phlebotomist is to collect blood. Generally the purpose of drawing blood is for sample work. They serve patients by preparing specimens for lab testing and performing screening procedures.
A phlebotomist may also be required to perform data entry in a number of cases, including when tests have been performed. Record management and bookkeeping are commonly required skills for phlebotomy experts, as well as proper etiquette during phone calls with patients. Phlebotomists will usually report to nurses or doctors on staff. We require phlebotomists to be certified from an accredited agency, and usually have at least 2 years experience in the phlebotomy field.
