Home Care Speech Language Pathologist job in Newark, NJ

Horizon Healthcare Staffing is searching for a speech language pathologist to perform services in the home. This position requires travel to the Newark, NJ area. Speech language pathologists both identify and treat communication problems related to language and speech. Working with patients of all ages, speech-language pathologists seek to improve communication skills through vocal exercises and cognitive therapies. Patients may have an articulation, language, fluency, or resonance disorder, which prevents them from either being understood or understanding others.

 

SLP Job Details:

  • Located in Newark, New Jersey
  • The setting is in the home
  • You will be taking care of patients with TBI and CVA
  • Approximately 20 hours per week

 

Job Duties:

  • Provide skilled speech therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders.
  • Assess patient needs; plans for, evaluates and modifies care to meet goals of the speech therapy interventions.
  • Collaborate with all disciplines to plan and evaluate team goals for each patient.
  • Instruct patient/family/caregivers on patient’s total speech therapy program.
  • Advise, consult and instruct members of the multi-disciplinary team in specific speech therapy modalities and interventions.
  • Communicate with all disciplines on providing care for the patient including nursing staff, other therapy providers and physicians as appropriate to ensure quality and continuity of care

Job Qualifications:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience working as an SLP – home care experience preferred
  • New Jersey Speech Language Pathologist license

 

The delivery of speech-language services in the home allows for one-on-one interaction in an environment where the patient is most comfortable. Therapy activities can be tailored to address "real life" functional needs. The home setting also provides opportunities to individualize each patient's care plan to their specific environmental and social needs.

From the standpoint of the speech-language pathologist, home care practice affords added flexibility and autonomy, interaction with patients and families on a personal level, and opportunities for true interdisciplinary service delivery.
