Step 1: Choose the Right RN Education Program in Pennsylvania

There are several different pathways you can choose from to become an RN in PA. The best option for you depends on your personal goals, finances, timeline, and preferred learning environment. Below are the following options you can pursue for your PA Registered Nurse license:

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN): ADN programs typically take two years to complete and are offered at numerous community colleges throughout Pennsylvania. This is the fastest path to becoming an RN and is a popular option for students eager to enter the workforce quickly.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) : A BSN takes about four years to complete and offers broader opportunities long-term. Many Pennsylvania hospitals prefer or require BSN nurses for specialized units, leadership tracks, and magnet-recognized facilities. It’s also important to note that some states have started to require all Registered Nurses to earn their bachelors degree to continue nursing professionally. As of right now, Pennsylvania does not require this but it may be a requirement in the future.
• Accelerated Nursing Programs: If you already have a bachelor’s degree in another field, several Pennsylvania universities offer accelerated BSN programs that can be completed in as little as 12-18 months.
