Typical Job Details:

  • One to one assignments (special needs students) for in school and/or transportation to and from school
  • Part time and full time job assignments available
  • The hours of the assignment will be during school hours – hours typically vary by school.

 

Typical Responsibilities of a school paraprofessional (responsibilities may differ by assignment and school):

  • Reinforcing behavior through the use of positive behavior support
  • Teaching daily living skills such as independent feeding, dressing, toileting
  • Guiding and assisting student in small group instruction settings with class routines and in transitioning from one activity to the next
  • Teaching student, under direction of teacher in the following areas: recreation, motor, vocational, socialization and communication
  • Assisting students with ambulation within the school premises and on class trips
  • Lifting, feeding, toileting and diapering after receiving appropriate training
  • Collecting data documenting student behavior for instructional purposes
  • Writing anecdotal information concerning student behavior
  • Providing language assistance for bilingual students

 

Typical Requirements of a Paraprofessional:

  • Previous experience in child care
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good writing skills
