Horizon Healthcare Staffing will be hosting a School Nurse Information Session on Thursday, 2/15/18 at our Hicksville office. The class will be starting at 9:30am and ending at 3:30pm. Lunch will be served. You must have 2 years of Registered Nursing experience to attend.

What does a School Nurse Information Session mean?

• Our Nurse Educator (RN) will be covering various school nurse topics in order for you to fully understand what is required to be a school nurse or to take on a 1:1 assignment with a special needs child.
• You will learn about the medical conditions that are now prevalent in schools today and the current best practices to provide safe nursing care to students.
• You will learn about the relevant policies and procedures that Horizon requires of school nurses working in NYC schools.
• As a result of this session, you will be able to make an informed decision as to whether you are fully interested in school nursing and Horizon will have thoroughly interviewed you for the role.
• If you have previous experience working as a school nurse, this will serve as an update on the current best practices.
• If you have never worked as a school nurse, this will serve as a thorough overview of school nursing.
• Horizon offers our School Nurses continuing education both in the field as well as through interactive Web-Based Instructional Learning Sessions.

What is required to attend the School Nurse Information Session?

• New York State Licensed Registered Nurse
• At least 2 years experience working as an active RN

What type of assignments do we offer?

• One to one cases with special needs students (both full-time and part-time/per-diem)
• Full-time school nurse (32-40 hours a week)
• Substitute school nursing (part-time/per-diem)
• Field Trip Nurse (part-time/per-diem)
• Transportation (being on the bus with a student) (2-5 hours per day depending on the assignment)
