Director of Nursing
Horizon Healthcare Staffing is searching for a Director of Nursing for one of our clients located in Norwalk, Connecticut. This is a full time position within a Rehabilitation Center.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains nursing service objectives and standards of nursing practice, develops nursing service policies and procedures and writes job descriptions for nursing service personnel.
- Organizes, develops and directs nursing administration and patient care. Orients, instructs and supervises personnel and functions. Conducts inservice education and training programs.
- Coordinates nursing service with other departments.
- Maintains stock levels of supplies and adequate equipment.
- Regularly inspects facility and nursing practices for compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations.
- Is responsible for the execution of patient care policies in the absence of a physician.
- Interviews applicants and approves or rejects hiring.
- Orients and instructs new personnel.
- Schedules hours for 24 - hour coverage of qualified personnel to comply with state code and assigns duties, assisted by supervisory unit personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates work performance of personnel in all units, assisted by supervisory unit personnel.
- Discharges personnel who are not qualified, or who violate policies, or when staffing requirements warrant it.
- Assists charge nurses in developing nursing care plans for individual patients including rehabilitative and restorative activities, instruction in self-help, and cooperation with therapeutic services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, others.
- Establishes administration, procedure, and control of medications under direction of Pharmacist and Pharmacy Committee.
- Assesses supply and equipment needs for nursing department and sees that units are adequately stocked and maintained.
- Performs duties of Staff Nurse whenever and wherever required. Is on-call for emergencies that supervisory personnel cannot handle.
- Establishes and maintains employee health program; administers annual employee tuberculin testing programs. Assists in the establishment of a disaster, fire and safety program in cooperation with administration. Assures proper handling and emergency care of patients, personnel and visitors involved in accidents while on the job or in the building.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing.
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with courses in nursing administration preferred.
- Current State Nursing License
- Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing care.
- Ability to incorporate all aspects of nursing in total patient care plans.
- Ability to organize, plan and supervise nursing service departments
