Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner / NP / APN / Advanced Practice Nurse

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Job Description:

The Psychiatric APN (Advanced Practice Nurse) or Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical services including initial and ongoing assessments, initial treatment and crisis plan development, and the prescription and ongoing management of medication. Advanced Practice Nurses, whether they are nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse anesthetists, or nurse midwives, play a pivotal role in the future of health care.  APNs are often primary care providers and are at the forefront of providing preventative care to the public.

 

The psychiatric nurse practitioner will be responsible for treating youth ages 10-20, male and female.

Schedule: 40-50 hours per week to cover different group home locations.

Locations: Milford, Great Meadows, Hackettstown, Stanhope, Somerset, and Lafayette.

 

APN Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with the individual receiving services to ensure effective guidance, support and service delivery per individual.
  • Develop initial treatment and crisis plan within the first 24 hours of admission.
  • Complete the intake Psychiatric assessment and report within the first week of admission.
  • Perform monthly clinical visit with individual.
  • Perform monthly clinical visit with family.
  • Attend monthly medication management meeting(s).
  • Attend monthly treatment team meeting(s).
  • Provide 24/7 availability by contract.
  • Maintain current progress and service notes and any other appropriate documentation in accordance with policy, program and state statutes.
  • Attend training and other meetings as required.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Possession of a degree of Doctor of Medicine from an accredited medical college or school supplemented by completion of a recognized residency program in Psychiatry or graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Advanced Practice Nursing
  • New Jersey Licensed APRN
  • Ability / authorization to prescribe medication
  • 3 years’ experience with psychiatric treatment.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of prescribed medications and side effects.
  • Knowledge of supervisory techniques and practices.
  • Skill in interviewing individuals and families.
  • Ability to diagnose and provide treatment to individuals.
