Description

Purpose:   The occupational health nurse (OHN) / nurse case manager is responsible for ensuring high quality customer service in disability case management, by providing medical expertise and serving as the critical communication link between all parties involved in medical disability cases. The occupational health nurse recognizes the importance of work, its financial, social, and psychosocial implications, and views return-to-work as a primary goal.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists employee-client in making informed choices via patient advocacy in alignment with the Medical Disability Advisor and laws regulating disability management.
  • Provides high quality customer service by demonstrating diplomacy, compassion and professional competency in a fast paced corporate environment.
  • Acts as a liaison between all parties required in case management to facilitate continuous communication and consensus.
  • Provides documentation, feedback, and reports to diverse occupational populations with an underlying emphasis on returning medically able individuals to productive endeavor.
  • Manages caseload efficiently, organizes priorities, provides timely intervention and maintains sensitivity to confidential records.
  • Ensures quality standards for case management are met.
  • Drives return to work process from beginning of case to closure.

 

Job Requirements


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years medical advisory experience in occupational health, workers’ compensation or disability case management.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Nurse Case Manager.
  • Registered Professional Nurse with working knowledge of disability, client processes and case management.
  • Must show evidence of Bachelor Degree along with state licensure.
  • Valid state nursing license, professional registrations and certifications will be current and in compliance with state and national requirements, and will be supported by continuing education.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical documentation.
  • Intermediate level computer skills using Microsoft Windows, Outlook, telephonic processing software and the internet.
  • Must complete the certified customer service training within 90 days of hire.
  • Must possess strong negotiation skills and the ability to effectively convey and communicate information with a wide audience of medical and non-medical personnel.
